Bubble Works Run Community is an informal and friendly drinking group that likes to run!
The group was created with the belief that mental health and wellbeing is as important as our physical wellbeing. As such we are proud to be part of the England Athletics Run and Talk initiative and also have a qualified Mental Health First Aider within the community.
We tend to run at our own pace, and so runs are largely self-directed. Our routes are published on our Strava Club page in advance. But if you're not sure of a route, just let someone at the club know and we can buddy you up with a similarly paced running partner.
We then have a nice chat over a beer or two. The first pint on the first Thursday is half-price!
First we ran...
Back in January 2019 we started out with an intrepid band of 8 runners and one drinker (arrived a bit late!) to kickstart our little community. We started out as a chapter of Mikkeller Running Club!
However, with the changing times and economic uncertainties that Covid-19 has brought around the world, we wanted to pay back a little bit of love to our hosts Beer Shop Hitchin.
So in August 2020 we changed our name and focus to pay our hosts back a little bit of love. Beer Shop Hitchin are also the founders and owners of nano-brewery, Bubble Works Brew Co, so now we are: Bubble Works Run Community.
We still have a lot of love for our MRC friends and family around the world, and hope to run a number of events with our neighbouring chapters.
...then we drank.
Despite the name change the principles of our community remain the same: have a run, have a beer and have a laugh.
There is no membership scheme and no commitment. Although we do have some kit available to buy if you wanna show us some love, and represent in BWRC colours.
We hope to see you at a Bubble Works Run real soon, and if you have any questions then please get in touch through our contact us page or on any of our social media channels.
Other local running clubs...
If you want to run with a group more often than once or twice a month, then we would heartily recommend local running club the Hitchin Hares. They run on a Wednesday evening and a Sunday morning, and are based at King George V Playing Grounds.
Supporting our community
We like to support our local community and give a little bit back.
Each year we have a nominated charity that we try to raise money for either through fundraising to run stupidly long distances, or through our annual Christmas raffle. If you'd like to nominate a local charity for us to support please just get in touch with Mark on a run night or through the contact page.
We also like to provide more direct support and each year do a collection for local charity Feed Up, Warm Up and this year we are piloting our own plogging events in collaboration with Bambuu Brush to help keep our town and area spick and span!
